I’ve been looking forward to this release from Portlands’ own, Rasheed Jamal since I heard “The Resistance”. He writes rhymes for society’s menace; My Beautiful Ugly is a rough draft to a smooth future.
The beginning of this tape brings up the question, “Who’s willing to go the distance to make their dreams a reality”? I love the whole damn tape, but found that my interest peaked with songs like “That Ain’t Love,” which has an Exile-like production, and “Secrets (You might wanna listen…),” with its interesting theory on Men, Women and feelings.
This album makes a good impression on the best of instrumentals, and it not only includes features from Audi on “Slow Death” and Blue Azul on “The Rain is Comin’”, it also re-invents “Electric Relaxation” by A Tribe Called Quest which makes for a feel-good love song.
In an interview with Triibe Movement; Rasheed mentioned he would be releasing music before the world ends. Isn’t it great we didn’t kick the bucket? Be on the lookout for his next project, 22 grams.
Viva La Resistance !
